Virtual Tour

Why We Love Living Here
In 2001, when we were told there was 22 acres available in the center of Weston we did not believe it. The location at the corner of Kettle Creek and Norfield Road was ideal for our young family. Our children can walk to the school campus which is a blue ribbon school ranked # 1 in Connecticut for comprehensive High Schools , # 4 overall including Connecticut charter and magnet schools and # 184 nationally in US News & World Reports 2016 report.

The children’s sports game are a short walk or bike ride on the weekend. We can walk or bike to the library, the Weston Center, the schools and the Memorial Day Parade and Fair. After living on Lyons Plain Road in Weston for the previous 11 years it was great to have the convenience of being a 2 minute car ride from the market, pharmacy , cleaners, bank, hardware and Lunch Box restaurant while having the privacy of a 22 acre parcel that has views as far as Redding from the back terrace. The property is bordered on the far end by Beaver Brook which is reached by a nature trail that runs the perimeter of the property. Along the trail you also find the campsite which has an Adirondack Lean-To (think 3 sided log cabin) with outdoor fireplace for overnight adventures.

Our Family Home
Working with architect, Dinyar Wadia, of Wadia Associates we built our family home to be a place where we could relax and enjoy our children but also be able to host their friends and ours. We enjoy entertaining and designed the dining room at 495 square feet to be large enough to comfortably seat 20. The dining room can be serviced from the butler’s pantry which contains a full wet bar with ice machine and dishwasher. The Kids floor on the basement level has 9 1/2 foot ceilings with 1,288 square feet of play area and TV room; additionally, the lower level has a 390 square foot gym and full bath with steam shower.

Infrastructure & Utilities
The house was built with an internal steel frame which provides an incredibly sturdy feeling during any type of weather. The hot water system has an industrial boiler with a propane back up so that all 6 showers can be used at the same time with no concerns for lack of hot water. The house was designed to have no gutters so that the overhangs empty into a French drain system. All utilities are buried from the street to the home.

Natural Color! Park like setting with Arboretum feel and expansive perennial garden plantings
In the Spring there is the waterfall of Spring colors from the flowering specimen trees and perennial bushes and flowers beginning with hundreds of daffodils, followed by forsythia, then the Yoshino Cherry trees set in the semicircle of the lower lawn followed by the Pink Magnolias on the upper front lawn and then come the fragrant hyacinths and tulips along with the Prunus Schmidtcis purple leaf with white flower plum tree and most fragrantly the Viburnum Carlessii around the terrace with their perfume scents. The ornamental crab apple trees bloom next followed by the Kwanzan Cherry trees around the front entrance followed by the Pink and White dogwoods and Cherokee Plum Trees along the entrance drive and then the Japanese Snowbell ( Styrax Japonica) trees. The peonies and Lilac bushes bloom next along with the Kousa Dogwood. Throughout the summer the rose gardens provide hundreds of flowers along the back terrace along with the Hydrangea Macrophylla surrounding the pool and the Clematis climbing the barn and terrace walls and the Butterfly bushes along with the Purple and Yellow Echinacea and Stella D’Oro Lilies. Along the driveway find Purple Iris lining the copse near the small stone bridge. In the Fall the color continues with the foliage in multiple colors of Red and Yellow Maples, Oak, Ash, Cherry, Beech, Tulip and Hickory trees and Euonymus Burning Bush.
The winter season provides it’s owns colors with the snow covered Pine trees that border the front of the property and the holly bushes with their berries in the holiday season.

Resort Feel
We tried to create a resort feel for relaxing and entertaining. The home is situated on the top of a hill with sweeping eastern views off the rear terrace extending miles out to Wells Hill in Redding and capturing beautiful morning sun. The rear terrace has 1,664 square feet of bluestone patio for outdoor entertaining and dining. Travelling down a set of stone stairs brings you to the pool area which contains a 1,500 square foot pool and 104 square foot raised spa which is bordered by over 1,700 square foot of bluestone patio all surrounded by perennial gardens.
The pool is just steps from the party barn which serves as pool house and more.

The Barn
The Barn is where we host our big parties and is the source of an incredible amount of good karma. The barn has hosted multiple parties of over 200 people and been the site of numerous fund raising events over the past 9 years raising over an estimated $700,000 for local charities. It has also been the site of 2 weddings. The 3,600 square foot 3 level hill barn features 2,400 square feet of entertaining space on the main and upper floor and and 1,200 square feet on the ground floor which provides for a 6 car garage and workshop area. When clearing the land we realized some of the large trees would make great wide wooden planks for the barn floor. We were able to borrow a friend’s portable sawmill and milled our own lumber for the floors and bar area of the barn immediately creating a feel of a barn much older than it’s 9 years. The large barn doors open to the pool area creating a comfortable area out of the sun to keep an eye on the pool activities. The bartop has World Series tickets from the last 25 years preserved under a clear polyurethane surface. The rear covered deck on the barn overlooks the orchard and vegetable garden. There is a full bath with washer and dryer in the barn for easy clean up at the end of the day.

The Bocce Court Area
A short walk from the pool area is the bocce court. The regulation bocce court is 60 feet by 12 feet with a Har-Tru surface and is bordered by a 150 square foot raised stone patio with outdoor fireplace which serves as a great spot for alfresco entertaining.

Campsite
After visiting the Adirondack trail system in New York we fell in love with the Adirondack Lean-tos ( 3 sided log cabins) for sleeping outdoors. We found a beautiful spot in the lower wooded portion of the property and built the cabin with an outdoor fireplace for great outdoor overnight adventures. With lanterns hung around the edge of the campsite you feel like you could be in Vermont or the Smoky Mountains with no houses to be seen and the sound of Beaver Brook running by.

Caretaker / In Law Cottage
The property contains a 3 bedroom cottage that features a wood beamed cathedral ceiling in the living room.

Sustainability
The home was engineered with a geothermal heating and cooling system and is supplied by 10 Kilowatts of solar panels which provide up to 40% of the energy required for the heating cooling and electrical needs of the property.
The stone terraces and walls are all built with stone from the property.

Outdoor agricultural activities
Maple Syrup production – the property has multiple Maple trees that provide gallons of syrup at the end of the winter for making your own maple syrup.
Fruits – The terraced orchard has peach, apple and pear trees.
Vegetable and Herbs – The vegetable and herb garden is large enough to provide bushels of peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries and corn.
Firewood – stone woodshed can store up to 6 cords of firewood that is in abundance on the property.

Wildlife
Who shares Kettle Creek with us. We are constantly visited by white tailed deer, turkey, red tail hawks, owls, song birds too numerous to list, turtle moms laying their eggs, fox, muskrat, raccoon, and even the occasional black bear, coyote and bobcat.

Potential development
Preliminary discussions with a land use specialist indicates that there is the potential for 9 building lots.
