The Community and Culture
The town of Weston is a unique Connecticut community with deep roots and strong family values. Located 45 miles east of New York City in Fairfield County, its rolling wooded hills will always be a bucolic retreat, where streams refresh the senses and privacy is a way of life. Nearly one quarter of Weston's land is dedicated to open space protecting the historic appearance of the town. Incorporated in 1787, Weston’s 20.8 square miles and population of 10,388 (2014 census) are governed by a Board of Selectmen. Weston History and Culture Center preserves the town's 230+ year history, making it come alive for residents through a variety of events and programs.
In the 1950's farsighted town officials instituted two-acre zoning, maintaining a peaceful country atmosphere for the wide variety of lovely homes in Weston’s green countryside. Ranging from restored antique farmhouses or modest starter homes to dramatic luxury mansions, all enjoy the rustic privacy of a country retreat convenient to the metropolitan area. The neighboring town of Westport provides beaches, fabulous restaurants, trains to New York City and shopping as well as outstanding cultural stimulation.
Educational Facilities
Weston is committed to quality education—with strong financial support from the community the town has created a top-rated school system, where 98% of graduates proceed onward to pursue a higher education. Weston’s Hurlbutt Elementary School, Intermediate School, Weston Middle School with its Olympic-sized pool and the Weston High School have garnered an impressive list of awards. Weston High School was rated the #4 high school in Connecticut in 2020. Small class sizes, a wide range of creative arts and sporting activities along with opportunities for independent and overseas study enrich a superior curriculum. Weston Public Library serves the entire community by providing a broad range of resources (educational, informational, technical and social).
Recreational Facilities
Devil’s Den, the largest nature preserve in Connecticut, is a remarkable 1,756-acre preserve providing Nature Conservancy programs and hiking on over 20 miles of well maintained trails. Weston's 52-acre Bisceglie Park has a man made swimming pond, baseball fields, fitness trails and a space for a host of other organized recreational activities. A community farm effort, Lachat Farm, provides further recreational and educational opportunities, along with a seasonal farmer's market. Extensive trails for hiking and equestrian use are available courtesy of the Aspetuck Trail Association. The superb private Aspetuck Country Club offers opportunities for tennis and golf; Weston Field Club offers tennis, an outdoor pool and lake for swimming and boating.
Transportation
Only an hour drive from Manhattan—with highway access to Interstate Route 95, the Merritt Parkway and Metro-North commuter rail service available from neighboring Westport or Wilton—make rail travel simple.
